Today On HostNOC Speaks, we have a certified AWS Solution Architect and IAB professional who is currently working as a Design and Development at Desarrollador DevOps.
Jorge Lopez Cardenas started his career in web development back in April 2009 and since then, he has accumulated a wide range of skills and experiences in web developer, system administration, software development and DevOps.
Read on to find out what Jorge has to share with people who aspire to make it big in the software development and cloud infrastructure world.
HostNOC: Hi, Jorge. Let’s begin with the most cliched question. Who is Jorge López Cárdenas? What is your story?
I am a self-taught person, who aspires to improve and give maximum productivity potential in any role that I might be playing. I always want to be at the forefront of any decision making that involves leveraging information technology to scale operations and improve organizational and individual performance.
There’s a burning desire to always be up to speed with the latest advancements happening in the cloud universe. For this, I always pounce upon the latest certifications, as well as share free knowledge through the presentations I make. It was around 8 years old when I fell in love with the computer world and since then, I have not stopped training, going from being a simple computer technician to reaching the current position of a Cloud Architect.
HostNOC: We have observed that you have worked with Design and Development over the years. How do you think Design and Development have changed over the past year and what are the new things you are trying?
For development companies, it has been a significant positive change, since it has made it easier for us to focus on what our business and customer niche really is and avoid wasting time on server administration tasks, for example.
The most important changes in our company have been the total migration to the AWS Cloud, continuous integration and docker.
The change can be good and bad, but I think the way technology is moving forward in the field of Server-based, is making it easier for a webmaster like me to understand that core behind the framework. Same goes for the design part, UI/UX is getting easier with the help of the latest tools, such as consumer on-page heat map to find which part needs fixing.
HostNOC: If someone wants to buy a server, which one would be your choice? Linux server or Windows server? and why?
At the moment, I do not see the need to buy physical hardware, with all the advances in the Cloud I would opt for any company to rent according to demand in the cloud. It depends on the type of application I would use one or the other, but for me, I prefer Linux.
Linux server is more preferred when it comes to accessibility. That is the reason why I opted for Linux, as it is scalable and customizable while the Windows server still needs something that needs to be upgraded. But, Linux will always be my first choice.
HostNOC: You mentioned the deployment of Amazon AWS, what do you think about AWS? When should one deploy it?
AWS is the king of cloud computing right now, deploying software is really easy and scalable. You can use their continuous integration services or use your own and install your CI agents on AWS machines.
Although what really abstracts machine management is using serverless services or Kubernetes managed by AWS.
AWS is great for building a business from the bottom as it provides all the tools necessary for companies to start up with the cloud. For existing companies, Amazon provides low-cost migration services so that your existing infrastructure can be seamlessly moved over to AWS with minimum downtime.
HostNOC: Let’s talk about your life a bit, what do you love doing besides design/development? What are the hobbies that you follow these days?
When I have some free time (which I hardly do), I usually spend it on cruising across the country on my bike. Reading makes leaders; therefore I read a ton of books on not just tech-related, but finance and economics as well. The world of economics fascinates me, as it gives me extra exposure to what is happening all around the world in the business world.
HostNOC: What was the reason that motivated you to step into the world of development considering this field is a tough one?
As I said before, from an early age, I had the opportunity to start playing with a computer, my great passion for the technological world comes from there.
Later, when I started studying to train as a professional, I was getting more hooked. Learning new things, creating and being part of scores of new projects to boost businesses’ ROI has become my life. This is what made me polish my skills more. As you asked about technological advancement above, that too helped me in going further in this field.
After all, every day, you face different challenges and problems and that is what motivates me in my profession.
HostNOC: Website is at the core of any business that leads to success, so it plays an important part for businesses to showcase their services. HostNOC provides premium hosting services. What sort of role do you think companies like us can play in the betterment of the cloud computing landscape?
HostNOC offers compatible cloud services and at a better price than the current cloud computing providers that I have encountered, I wouldn’t recommend any provider that does not provide scalability in seconds. That is the reason why I am endorsing HostNOC because it has the potential to provide resources to not just small businesses but also serve large-scale enterprises. Furthermore, The HostNOC reviews also speak for itself, and it is indeed a top-notch server hosting, which I would publically endorse.
